Science Without Borders and NTU’s International Experience in the SGH Project

Viktoriia Yanovska Representative of the National Transport University, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Economics, Marketing and Business Administration, takes an active part in the project of the Center for Ukrainian Studies of the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, one of the leading economic universities in Central and Eastern Europe. The project leader is Professor Tomasz Szapiro, a well-known Polish scientist whose research and organizational activities are currently focused on the development of international interdisciplinary research and the integration of Ukrainian issues into the European and global academic discourse.

The SGH Center for Ukrainian Studies is an interdisciplinary academic platform aimed at the development of scientific research, expert analysis and educational initiatives dedicated to the socio-economic development of Ukraine, transformation processes, European integration and reconstruction of the country.

Within the framework of the project, participation is carried out in:

  • preparation and implementation of joint research initiatives;
  • expert and analytical work on economic policy, institutional development and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine;
  • academic events of the Center – seminars, round tables, public discussions and international conferences;
  • development of a network of cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish scientists, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian scientific diaspora.

An important component of this activity is the combination of work at the SGH Center for Ukrainian Studies with teaching and research activities at the Ukrainian university. Such dual framework facilitates the integration of international experience with the educational process. It also expands opportunities for academic mobility and involvement the university in international scientific networks. Participation in the project of the SGH Center for Ukrainian Studies is a significant contribution to strengthening the international presence of Ukrainian economic science, popularizing Ukrainian research abroad and forming an expert environment focused on sustainable development and the European future of Ukraine.

Scientific workshops of the SGH Center for Ukrainian Studies are organized on a regular basis, at least once a month in a full-time one-day format. The workshop includes coach supported teamwork, an internal seminar and hybrid session open for international audience. The program of the workshops includes individual scientific consultations with leading scientists, group discussions of research design and methodology, as well as open public discussions with the presentation of scientific results of project participants or invited speakers. The hybrid part of workshops is open to international participants from e.g. USA, Canada, Brazil, Ukraine.

On December 13, 2025, a regular scientific seminar of the Center for Ukrainian Studies SGH was held, within the framework of which Professor Viktoriia Yanovska presented the results of her current scientific research and took part in professional discussions that brought together scientists from Poland (SGH Warsaw School of Economics, University of Warsaw, University of Zielona Góra, Kraków University of Economics, AGH University of Kraków, Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University), Ukraine (Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University, National Transport University, Kyiv Institute of Business and Technology), Canada (McMaster University) and Brazil (Western Paraná State University). The seminar demonstrated a high level of academic interaction and an active international academic environment, within which methodologies, empirical results and research approaches are exchanged.

Viktoriia Yanovska’s presentation on “Modeling Negotiation Strategies in Academic Ecosystems in the Context of Asymmetric Power of the Parties” was devoted to the application of soft data analytics tools and negotiation theory to analyze the interaction between academic institutions in conditions of unequal access to resources, influence and information. The seminar also presented the results of research on the topics “Negotiations in Distributed Systems: Contingent Model of Consortial Agreement (CMCA)” (Bartek Wieckowski and Tomasz Psonka), “Ethnic Capital in AHP-Driven Preference Elicitation and Public Policy Negotiation” (Viktoriia Нurochkina), “Modelling Partner Systems through Clustering and Multi-Criteria Selection: A Case Study of Ukrainian Migrants in Poland” (Svitlana Chugaievska). The presented results became the basis for the further development of the studies in preparation for the 26th International Conference on Group Decision and Negotiation.

The second presentation by Viktoriia Yanovska “Barriers to Internationalization – Comparative Analysis”, which took place as part of the hybrid session, summarized the next stage of joint research on institutional, organizational and behavioral factors influencing the international activity of universities of Central and Eastern Europe and Ukraine. The discussion of the results took place with the participation of scientists from different academic systems, which made it possible to compare the experience of Ukraine, Poland, America and outline the directions of further comparative research with the prospect of publication in international indexed journals. Also presented in the hybrid session were the papers “Impact Assessment of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora on Rebuilding Ukraine” (Yevgeniia Polishchuk) and “Relationship between GDP and Scientific Productivity” (Bartek Wieckowski).

In general, the participation of the representative of the National Transport University in the activities of the SGH Center for Ukrainian Studies contributes to the formation of sustainable scientific ties, the development of joint research projects and the integration of Ukrainian economic science into the global academic space. Active work in such an international environment strengthens the scientific reputation of the university, expands opportunities for attracting teachers and young researchers to international initiatives, and creates additional prerequisites for participation in joint grant programs and interdisciplinary research aimed at the reconstruction and sustainable development of Ukraine.

All interested researchers are invited to participate in the scientific initiatives of the SGH Center for Ukrainian Studies.
