The department was formed by the rector’s order №148 on April 18, 2018 by merging two departments: the Department of Electronics and Computing and the Department of Physics. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. Al-Ammori Ali was elected the head of the new department by the staff.

The Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering was founded by the Ministry of Higher Education of Ukrainian SSR Order № 24 on January 17, 1962, according to which the Department of Electronics and Automation was established at Kyiv Automobile and Highway Institute.

It was headed by A.A. Rukhlіadіev, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor, then by P.M. Melnyk (1965-1975), PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor, B.M. Chetverukhin (1975-1980), Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, H.V. Karandakov (1980-1982), Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the International Academy of Informatization, V.I. Sorokin (1982-1986), and again H.V. Karandakov (1986-2002) PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor. In 1986, after the reorganization, the department was named ‘Electronics and Computer Engineering’. From 2002 to 2015 the department was headed by V.D. Danchuk, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Construction, Academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, awarded with the Petro Mohyla badge. From 2015 to 2017 V.I. Kryvenko, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor, was an acting head of the department. From September 2017 to September 2018, the department was headed by Al-Ammori Ali Nurddynovych, Doctor of Technical Sciences.

The Department of Physics was founded in 1944. Its first head was Solomon Davydovych Hertsriken (1944-1946), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor. Later, the department was managed by A.I. Danylenko (1946-1960), Doctor of Science, Professor, I.I. Bilenko (1961-1978), PhD in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a member of the methodological council of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of the Ukrainian SSR, E.V.
