On May 13, 2017 the University held another Open Day

In the gala hall of the University prospective applicants met First Vice-Rector, Prof. Biliakovych M.O.,Vice-Rector for Academic Work, Prof. Hryshchuk O.K., Dean of the Faculty of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Mateichyk V. P.,  Dean of the Faculty of Transport Construction, Prof. Slavinska O.S., Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Information Technologies, Prof. Danchuk V. D., Dean of the Faculty of Management, Logistics and Tourism, Prof. Bakulich O. O., Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Law, Associate Prof. Yarova R. V., Admissions Committee Secretary, Prof. Filipova H.A.

Vice-Rector for Academic Work, Prof. Hryshchuk O.K. spoke about the present- day University and its history. Professor Filipova H.A. focused on the details of the entrance campaign in 2017. The guests were interested in the peculiarities of Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees curricula.  After that, as a matter of routine, the guests had a chance to speak with the faculty representatives about the University majors and prospects a higher education can offer to prospective applicants.

The visit to the University would not be complete without an exciting tour of the Faculty of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Transport Construction headed by their Deans( see the reports on the previous Open Days on our site).

Vasyl Petrovych Mateichyk started the excursion with visiting the Department of Engines and Thermal Engineering laboratory, where the guests were greeted by the head of the laboratory Pavlenko  V. O. Six research stands with alternate current loading units for testing all types of internal combustion engines aroused intense interest among the guests. Modern gas analysis equipment allows determining the content of such main pollutants as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon compounds, and nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases as well as diesel engine exhaust gases opacity. In the laboratory students can carry out research and participate in analyzing energy efficient and power-ecological indicators of an engine.

The visitors were also  interested in the stand for testing  D-243 tractor diesel engine and asked a lot of questions. Vitaliy Oleksiyovych was glad to answer them in details.

After that prospective applicants visited the Department of Automobiles. Head of laboratory, Novitskyi M. A. and engineer Razboynikov O. O are always happy to meet the guests.

Oleksandr Oleksandrovych is talking enthusiastically  about various laboratory equipment, such as unique test stands created by the department staff as well as about the equipment presented to the University by partners (including foreign ones) – car manufacturers or manufacturers of means for vehicle operation and research. A young engineer also points out that the university knowledge will help graduates become highly qualified professionals in designing, testing, researching and certificating vehicles.

Guests could see a unique stand for the study of elastic wheel rolling parameters, a machine for the study of independent suspension and steering mechanisms, a hybrid all-wheel steering car, a modular element for the test road train, a power-unit, Audi multi-link suspension and hydromechanical transmission. (For more details see the reports on the previous Open Days on our site).

What is important is that the students are willing to make their own test stands, demonstrating incredible creativity and resourcefulness. Oleksandr Oleksandrovych is showing some of the students’ test stands for researching steering system kinematics and a drive axle as well as for identifying modern vehicle friction clutch parameters.

Mykola Andriyovych is speaking  about a long history of research at the Department. His stories about the achievements of the Department scientific schools in the field of  flotation ability and vehicle rolling stock can leave no one indifferent.

Then Vasyl Petrovych invited the guests to NTU vehicle scientific training center, founded in the Department of Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Service laboratory with the support of Scania company. The centre laboratory is equipped with SCANIA R400 (EURO 5) modern truck, EuroCar Skoda Octavia and Skoda Fabia cars, petrol diesel engines and process equipment and tooling.

At the same time other guests together with Dean of the Faculty of Transport Construction, Prof. Slavinska O.S. visited one of the Department of Bridges and Tunnels laboratories named after Yuriy Mykolayovych Dadenkov, who was the first Rector(from 1944 to 1959) of Kyiv Automobile and Highway Institute ( present-day National Transport University). Head of the laboratory, Mykola Ivanovych Klymenko spoke about the equipment and the research carried out in the laboratory.

Head of the laboratory is demonstrating an eight meter long  and one meter wide open hydraulic flume for studying waterworks( bridges, knick points and overflow-dikes). The laboratory is used for both research works to design and construct waterworks and student practicals.

And this is a stand for studying pressure pipes. It allows looking into the interrelation between the pressure and the speed of liquid in a waterflow. Carrying out such research at the practicals, students understand well general hydraulics laws: the energy conservation principle (Bernoulli equation) and mass conservation law (continuity equation).

In the end, Olena Serhiivna showed the visitors around a modern interdepartment computer lab for the students to have practicals and work on course and diploma projects. All computer lab software is licensed and updated.
