Ihor Andriyovych Loza – the Head of the Department, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor.

The Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics was founded in 1944. Its head was an outstanding Ukrainian scientist, mechanic, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Mykola Oleksandrovych Kilchevskyi, who was later elected Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Further on, Theoretical Mechanics was taught at the Department of Construction Mechanics, later – at the Department of the Resistance of Materials. After the departments reorganization in 1987, the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics was established and was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Olexandr Olehovych Rasskazov. The present Head of the Department Ihor Andriyovych Loza, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor has been working since 2015.

The department has six full-time employees, including two doctors of physical and mathematical sciences, two candidates of physical and mathematical sciences, one candidate of technical sciences, including two professors and three associate professors.

The department’s teachers provide teaching of disciplines of mathematical, natural science, professional and practical training for bachelor’s level higher education applicants, including: theory of mechanisms and machines; theoretical mechanics; theoretical and applied mechanics, technical mechanics; applied mechanics; dynamics of mechanical systems; differential equations; linear algebra and analytic geometry; numerical methods, elements of function theory and functional analysis, theory of unstable sets, as well as for postgraduate students – mathematical modeling in scientific research.

The Main Research Areas at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics:

development of layered structures for road and bridge construction, improvement of large-sized dump truck tire designs, including:

  • research of electroelastic vibrational and wave processes in inhomogeneous bodies with piezoelectric properties;
  • mechanics of a deformed solid, in particular the mechanics of plates and shells;
  • dynamics of interaction of a system of bodies of various geometric shapes with an ideal incompressible fluid;
  • nonlinear vibrations of cylindrical shells with a fluid; vibrations and stability of structures subjected to moving inertial loads
