Ihor Andriyovych Loza – the Head of the Department, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor.

The Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics was founded in 1944. Its head was an outstanding Ukrainian scientist, mechanic, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Mykola Oleksandrovych Kilchevskyi, who was later elected Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Further on, Theoretical Mechanics was taught at the Department of Construction Mechanics, later – at the Department of the Resistance of Materials. After the departments reorganization in 1987, the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics was established and was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Olexandr Olehovych Rasskazov. The present Head of the Department Ihor Andriyovych Loza, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor has been working since 2015.

There are eight full-time lecturers, including two professors and five associate professors at the department.
