Borys Ivanovych Khoroshun –the  Head of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Doctor of Historical Sciences , Professor, author of more than 130 scientific and educational works, including 6 educational manuals, a member of the editorial board of the scientific collection “Social History” (Kyiv, Taras Shevchenko National University ), awarded the Order of Merit of the 3rd degree, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Certificate of Merit, “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” and “Petro Mohyla” breastplates from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. He gives a course on “History of Ukraine and Ukrainian Culture”.

In 1964, a new independent division, the Department of the CPSU History, was founded at the Kyiv Automobile and Road Institute as a result of the reorganization of the Department of Marxism-Leninism, which existed since 1944.     It was renamed into the Department of History (1991) at the period of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence. Principal directions of the research work at the department were also changed. In 1993, it was named the Department of Ukrainian Studies due to a wide range of the Ukrainian Language disciplines taught at the department. In 1997, it was united with the Department of Philosophy. The first head of this structural unit was Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor P. G. Snitko (1919-1972). In 1972, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences. Since 1973, Associate Professor O. P. Dontsov (1910-1985) was in charge of the department. During 1974-1984, the department was headed by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor V.I. Bilousov (1921-2003), and during 1985-1992 – Doctor of Hisorical Sciences, Professor B. P. Kovalevskyi (1922-1993). In 1993, the KARI Department of Ukrainian Studies was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Y.V. Homyak, then the obligations of the head were executed by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor B. I. Khoroshun. Since 1997, after the unification of the Departments of Ukrainian Studies and Philosophy, a newly created division was headed by Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor V. F. Perederiy. In June 2003, on the basis of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Philosophy, two departments were opened –  the Department of Theory and History of the State and Law and the Department of Philosophy. The former was headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor B. I. Khoroshun.
