Mykola Dmytriiev was born in the town of Horodysche, Cherkasy region on September 3, 1946. In 1964, he finished Kyiv secondary school № 122.

In 1971, he graduated from the Kiev Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers and got a qualification of a maintenance engineer specializing in air navigation complexes and aircraft special-purpose facilities.

From 1974 to 1977, he was a postgraduate student at the Kiev Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers. In 1979, he defended his Candidate of Science dissertation, in 1998: his Doctor of Science dissertation.

In 1982, he was granted the rank of Associate Professor of the Department of Airport Special Purpose Transport and Mechanization Facilities. Since 1993, he has been working as Professor at the university.

From 1984 to 1995, he headed Research Laboratory at the Institute of Materials Engineering at National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

From 1995 to 1998, Mykola Dmytriiev was Professor of the Department.

From 1998 to 2000, he was Scientific Secretary of the National Transport University Academic Council.

In 1992, he was elected Principle Scientific Secretary of the Transport Academy of Ukraine.

In 2002, Mykola Dmytriiev was the Head of the Department of Airfields.

Since 2002, he has been First Vice-Rector for Research of the university.

In 2006, he was elected Vice-President as well as Principle Scientific Secretary of the Transport Academy of Ukraine.

His key research interests lie in the reliability of machines and mechanisms, thermometric diagnostics, non-destructive control of materials.

He is the author of over 150 academic publications, 5 monographs and 3 manuals in particular.
